Ready, Set, Go

Hello! My name is Amanda, and in exactly one week I will embark on the adventure of a lifetime. That’s right, on August 25th, 2015 I will begin my study abroad journey. For the next few months I will live in London, England and explore all the UK and Europe has to offer.

Excited? Yes!

Nervous! Absolutely.

I find it hard to believe that in only seven short days I will leave my home and live in England. While I have traveled abroad before, I’ve never spent more than a week away from the states. While I’m anxious about accommodating to a new way of life, I’m looking forward to embracing a new culture.

Before I get into my preparations for London, let me tell you a little bit about who I am.

My name is Amanda, as mentioned before. I am 20 years old and attend Fordham University in the Bronx. At Fordham I study Communications with a concentration in Journalism. While I would one day like to be a journalist, so far my resume consists of a long term position as a camp counselor. When I’m not in NYC, I live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my family.

This photograph was taken right after a few friends and I absolutely smashed Smorgasburg in Brooklyn. That is a smile of a girl who ate not just a Ramen Burger, but sipped on a delicious Prickly Pear Cactus Limeade (try it, it was AMAZING).

I wish I could say I am right on schedule with my prep for London. I still have to figure out my bank situation, I still have to figure out how I am going to pack, and I still have to figure out what classes I am taking for the semester. If I can offer any advice this early in my study abroad experience, it would be to PLAN AHEAD and DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.

You would think I would have known that, right?

Well, I’m 7 days away from what everyone has told me will be “The Best Experience of My Life”.

I can’t wait.

  1. I just want to say that I hope you have a great trip! You sound REALLY similar to me: I was a Comm major and a camp counselor three summers running who studied in London, haha. It’s one of the greatest cities in the world (but maybe I’m biased), and you’ll have so much fun. 🙂

      1. Do you know which area you’ll be living in? You should definitely see a show in the West End (cheap tickets from lastminute.com), and the museums are (mostly) all free so they are always nice to spend a day in. The tube is one of the easiest systems in the world, and while I wouldn’t advise walking in London at like 2am by yourself just like any big city, I feel REALLY safe in London so don’t be afraid to explore by yourself if your friends aren’t up for it one day and you are.

For super cheap clothes and an experience, head to Primark on Oxford Street (like a Forever 21 but even cheaper). For a beautiful view of the city on a sunny day, go to Primrose Hill at Regent’s Park.

Honestly there’s just so much to do, you’ll have a hard time choosing! But feel free to ask me any questions before you leave if you want. 🙂
